Parents & Campers Speak Out

Dear Camp Blue Sky:  

As parents of a 28 year old daughter with special needs we were thrilled to hear of Camp Blue Sky!   A camp right here in our Huron Valley community!  A camp whose directors are totally dedicated to our special population! Camp Blue Sky, right here in our neighborhood, will enable our daughter to really feel part of her community.

From the time our daughter was 9 years old, she attended summer camp and we always drove two hours from our home to get her to the nearest special camp available.

  We want to list some of the many benefits our daughter gained through her many summers of camp experiences:

• She gained more self-awareness as well as an appreciation for the natural world around her.
• Meeting camp challenges, she could more effectively problem solve.
• Her social skills improved.  
• She made many friends.
• She became more confident in many areas of her life, especially in her communication skills.
• We noted that she became more cooperative, acting with more empathy.
• She was able to more readily trust and to share of herself.
• She seemed happier after meeting the challenges offered through the camp experiences.
